A polished plate brass monolith becomes the kitchen in a Georgian apartment in Rathmines, Dublin. Set against tinted lime plaster walls in which the marks and damage of hundreds of years of diverse usage are preserved. Designed as a major sculptural presence within the historic setting the object seamlessly responds to the space by reflecting, matching and amplifying the golden hues of the wider room and light filled architecture. Creating a novel symbiotic relationship between user, use and context in this living setting, all recognisable kitchen features are hidden within the cupboard carcass and doors. The kitchen concept was developed, designed and specified during the production process by designers Elements of Action alongside Wabi Sabi as production partners.
